"A Michigan Lighthouse on a Montauk Shore” ~ Painting by Sharmagne Leland-St. John
Unfathomable
by Cheryl Miller
Stiff sea breezes whisk
pink and golden clouds
on this meringue morning.
Gulls circle above the lighthouse,
screech for their breakfast.
Ebb tide soft-slaps the sand;
the ocean recedes with continuous,
pulsating white noise
to leave mysterious scribbles,
notes taken in the night
from lunar conversations.
Much natural racket transpires
in a peaceful sunrise.
