The Academy of American Poets inaugurated National Poetry Month in April 1996 as a month-long, national celebration of poetry, whose goals include highlighting our poetic heritage and introducing more Americans to the pleasures of reading poetry.

We invite the readers of Quill and Parchment to help us celebrate National Poetry Month 2008 by submitting poems for our April issue about the poets who make up our heritage and inspire in us the love of poetry. [submission guidelines]. While National Poetry Month focuses on the legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets, we welcome poems from all cultures and literary traditions.

Chaucer portrayed April as a time of sweet showers, when the west wind inspires tender crops and small birds make melody. Join us in adding the pleasures of poetry to this list of bounties April brings.
